On August 23rd, a day trip organized by the Shinjuku Japanese Language School’s Tourism Business Class took place. The destinations were the Mishima Skywalk and Mishima Taisha in Shizuoka. In preparation, the teacher and students spent time planning the tour details and even requested quotes from external tour companies, ensuring a thorough and professional approach.
On the day of the trip, the group boarded a bus from near the school and set off! Due to the long journey, breaks were included along the way.
The Tourism Business Class includes students from all over the world, creating an international atmosphere. During the approximately 3-hour bus ride, students played a game called “Katakana-nashi”, where they answered quiz questions without using Katakana words. The bus was filled with excitement and laughter, making the time fly by, and before they knew it, they had arrived at Mishima Skywalk.
The 400-meter suspension bridge in Japan stood before them, impressive and vast. They stopped for a group photo before heading across it.
On the other side of the bridge, they discovered a vibrant area filled with shops and restaurants, as well as a variety of exciting activities. One highlight was the chance to zip line 560 meters through the air. Although not everyone participated, the excited cheers from those who did could be heard all around.
As the tour progressed, they visited Mishima Taisha. The shrine’s exact founding remains a mystery, though historical records first mention it in 758 AD. Following the thrill of the zip line, the peaceful atmosphere of Mishima Taisha offered a moment of calm. The students took the opportunity to purchase amulets and collect goshuin (temple stamps) as memorable keepsakes.
Afterward, they returned to Tokyo and headed back to Shinjuku. After a fun-filled day of activities and new discoveries, the students were exhausted on the return bus. Once back in Shinjuku and the trip concluded, the results of this tour will be presented at the school’s project presentation event. We look forward to it!
