A Visit to the National Museum of Nature and Science

On October 23, 2025, SNG students visited the National Museum of Nature and Science in Ueno for a field trip.

Their first stop was the dome theater THEATER36〇 (Theater San-Roku-Maru).

Inside, the entire dome serves as a screen, projecting images at a scale of “one-millionth the size of the actual Earth”. Surrounded by 360 degrees of breathtaking visuals, students were captivated by the sense of immersion and weightlessness that filled the space.

During the free exploration that followed, many students headed to the Japan Gallery.

The grand dome atrium and the soft light filtering through stained glass created a clam, almost timeless atmosphere. It was inspiring to see students carefully reading the exhibit notes, asking their Japanese teacher for help, and observing the displays with great curiosity and focus.

In one of the exhibition room, a student who had previously studied marine biology in her home country stood in front of an ammonite fossil and remarked “You can really feel how delicately and precisely this must have been excavated”

She listened intently to the museum staff’s explanations and even engaged in lively discussions. The staff, impressed by her deep knowledge and enthusiasm for marine life and nature, seemed pleasantly surprised.

Inside the museum, there is also a taxidermy mount of the Akita dog that became the model for the Hachiko statue in Shibuya.

Seeing the real Hachiko moved many students, and some even bought Hachiko fluffy toys as souvenirs to remember the day.

Through the museum’s fascinating displays and specimens, the students experienced Japan’s natural world and scientific heritage with all five senses.

It was a day of learning that not only expanded their knowledge but also enriched their hearts.
