The Tokyo Immigration Bureau has implemented changes to the screening criteria for students applying for "Student" status from April 2025 onwards. Applicants are required to meet one of the following requirements at the time of application.

The Tokyo Immigration Bureau has implemented changes to the screening criteria for students applying for "Student" status from April 2025 onwards.

Applicants are required to meet one of the following requirements at the time of application.

(A) Obtain the specified level or score in an applicable exam*

*Details such as countries/regions where the exams are administered, exam schedules, and fees vary by exam. Please check the official website for each exam for further information.

(B) Have a history of at least 150 hours of Japanese language study (self-study not included)

Submit a certificate of completion or enrollment issued by an educational institution. The certificate must include the following details:

  • Name of the educational institution
  • Address of the educational institution
  • Study period
  • Total hours of actual study
  • Attendance rate

If you do not meet the above requirements, you may enroll in the 150-hour online course offered by our school. Upon completing this course, you will fulfill requirement (B), and a certificate of completion will be issued by our school. Click on the link below for more details.
